A.Hak Leidingbouw B.V. installed a seven km 10 inch high pressure gas pipeline in the Ardennes, on the border between Belgium and France, for client Fluxys. The gas pipeline was installed to provide the local paper mill Burgo Ardennes with gas, this way the paper factory didn’t have to run on oil anymore.
The preparation of the construction project started February this year (2015). The actual works could only start after objections from adjacent landowners had been taken away. During the project A.Hak installed and pre-commissioned 7.1km of gas pipeline, as well as two valve stations. A.Hak Industrial Services B.V. took care of the testing and drying of the installation.
A.Hak used locally available subcontractors and equipment whenever possible, this is in line with our Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability policy. Next to this, local sourcing also ensured efficient execution as it saved both transport kilometres (and thus costs) as well as time.
All in all the project appeared to be challenging. The region is known for its variety of geological soil layers. Applying creative solutions, such as detours, prevented from disruptions. As a result of this solution-oriented attitude the first gas could enter the pipeline already in September 2015. The project was ultimately handed over in October, to full satisfaction of the client Fluxys.
